    Because they will bend, or the bolt might bend. Get 2x-3x thicker ones, some threadlocker, and you’re set.

  4. I wouldn’t think twice about running that. It will be fine unless you are carrying crazy heavy loads repeatedly.

    depends on how much weight you’re planning on putting on the rack imo. I ran the sunlite rack that mounts that way and was surprised at how i had no problems with it. Used mostly as a bag support for touring and then lighter loads later on. keep a bungee around the handlebars as a just in case.

  6. I absolutely love this idea. I agree with some of the suggestions to go thicker but this is what its all about folks. Screw industry standards. Pick up pieces in your garage and ride your damn bike.

    if it’s working, it works time, just riding it. It’s on the front, right? just don’t put very heavy bag on it.

  8. I think the mount is fine. The only thing I can contribute… is longer bolts. Looking at the bolt on the left side, it doesn’t thread into the Nylock much, if at all. Should be beyond the nylon. It’s going to rattle loose.

  9. assuming you’ve also got the fork crown tab mounted on this Nitto (can’t see in your pic)? In which case it’s no different to a canti rack. If anything your lower struts are less likely to fail. I wouldn’t go more than 5kg on a regular basis myself though. Rene Herse canti racks I think are tested and rated to 10kg of rough use, I’m sure these Nittos are pretty close to the same standard of strength (but usually Nitto quotes a lot less…. I think just being cautious).

  10. You do have a lot of leverage over the canti studs, but as long as it’s a small basket you won’t be tempted to carry heavy stuff in it’s a neat solution. The calipers move freely and feel good? Did those little L shaped pieces of hardware come with the rack?

  11. Everything in bikes has been done already. Much of it in the 19th century. The people who tried this died so they couldn’t report back.

    Different torque requirements may not yield a long term stable solution for both brake function and rack. By stable I mean it doesn’t require frequent adjustment(s). Too tight is great for the rack but could impact brake action. Not tight enough vice versa. You’re just gonna have to lead the way, try it and report back the results. Quite clever btw, good engineering vision.
