Hey guys! this is a follow up from my last post the other hour. Thanks for all the help on that, definitely going to get a new chain!! 🙂
It did however remind me of the crunching sound that I mentioned in that post…
For those who didn’t read. 3000km into my 6000km tour, I changed my chain for maintenance purposes. Straight away I got a crunching sound. It would only happen on high pressure, if going uphill or cycling fast. It wore off over the rest of the day and I can only imagine it was the brand new shiny chain not meshing with my cassette or chain rings…
As I’m about to go on a big 10,000km ish tour, this has made me a little paranoid.
I don’t really know what to look out for as far as wear goes. I read that a shark tooth look is not a good sign, but I don’t see much of that on mine?
Would be great to avoid this change as I’m not sure how to do it and I imagine it’s a little pricey! But would be good to know either way. Many many thanks :))))

clean them. soap, brush and water. then lube the chain.
use Peaty’s Degreasing Foam

Shark tooth is where you replace crankset, cassette and the chain.
Edit: If you are in doubt, 200-300€ worth of parts will ease your mind. It’s 10 000 km after all. It’s ten thousand?
