I only used this chain for a month, no rain during that time. Doesn’t seem like I went over puddles, too. I only washed it once when I first got it (to remove factory grease) and just now. Only this side is like this, the other is completely fine. Maybe I was negligent in drying this side.
Also all the marks seems to be in the same spot on every links, for some reason. Doesn’t go away even if I scratch it with my nails.
Is this rust? If so, is it okay to use it for waxing? I’ll clean up all the grease beforehand of course, but I’m wondering if I should just buy a new one.

I would deep clean it in a solvent that can soak between the links and rivets, then measure it to ensure it’s within spec. Waxing really requires a super clean chain to permeate the wax into all the links and rivets. Just looks like a light oxidation or riding buildup from wet lube.
