Took apart and re-greased my headset bearings and when I put everything back together the dust cover starts rubbing against the frame before all the play is taken out of the headset, making noise and making it harder to turn, and noticably stuck when it's tightened enough (still only like, 2Nm).

I feel like I'm missing a spacer, but I've taken everything apart 4 times and can't find anything that may have fallen off or gotten stuck in anything.

Not sure if it's relevant but I replaced the expansion plug because it was stripped, but nothing else should be different from when it was working.

  1. Longshot but some bearings are different heights. If the steerer is straight, you could maybe have put the bottom bearing in the top, top in the bottom… Other than that, there are normally little shims you put below the bearing cover, they are very thin and used to stop this problem. If you can’t solve it, order some of them.
