I this video I explore what is left of the Dudley number 2 canal which ran from Dudley to Selly Oak, and also look at the three canal tunnels that linked Dudley to the Birmingham Canals. At Selly Oak we join the Birmingham and Worcester canal before heading up the Birmingham Canal to Tipton and the Dudley Canal tunnel. finally we head through Dudley back to the start at Canal park.

  1. The towpath of the Old Main Line in Smethwick is indeed usually a quagmire; I always take Mr Telford's route on the bike and Mr Brindley's when on foot. Thanks for the route – I'll give it a go very soon.

  2. Nice one Nate, you did part of my cycle home from lye up to the river rea route. Certainly are some hills! I now now more about what im actually riding past now

  3. Great video. I've cycled most of this but on different trips so nice to see it all pieced together. I think the disused railway line from Russell's Hall to Wolverhampton is crying out for a proper cycle path. The plans for the A4123 Bearwood to Wolverhampton road look good, they plan to build a proper 2 way protected cycle lane alongside.

  4. It's a shame you didn't take a right as you left Woodgate and went about 30 MTRS past the roundabout on to Barnes Hill. There's a plaque on the side of the road that shows where the Laple canal tunnel exited.

  5. If you go down bournebrook, there is a cycle path through the city hospital grounds, where you can get onto the canal from the university station. It cuts out some time, and interfaces with traffic, if commuting or trying to keep time. Not a very exciting explore though!

  6. A rather interesting journey. I used to cyvle on the disused Grantham canal and thd disused railwsy line at Belvoir.😊 The drift track up there near saltby, had beautiful wildflowers!😊
