Going to pick up on Thursday a vintage Italian MTB from the '90s (1st pic), usually they used to use nice quality frames
. But then I've noticed something in a pic of another same model, but different colours.
They both have the Shimano Sis (the original one), but how many gears on the crank? 4? Anybody have seen before something like that?

It’s a very low-end bike. Stamped steel rear dropouts, cheap claw-derailler, steel cranks and plastic levers, bolt-on rear wheel and 5-speed in the 90s? They were up to 8 speeds by then.
But yes the quadruple crank is rare. I’ve seen them before but not alot of them.
I can’t tell from the photos but if those are steel rims I wouldn’t even buy this bike. Worth about $10. I guess it’s something good to lock up that you don’t have to worry about though.
