Hey guys, making my way around the world slowly and coming to Turkey next. Looking for some opinions on this route above.
I will start in early March and have gotten a lot of the route from this site:
https://cycloscope.net/cycling-turkey
It's a super helpful site!
I follow the Inner South route as described on the site until just after Cappadocia and Konya, where I steer further North going a bit more directly to Tbilisi which is where I need to get to. I dont know too much about the East of Turkey other than the coastal route is not very nice. Therefore im currently just plotting a route through the bigger cities, Sivas, Erzurum etc… I could of course follow the whole route that the site suggest which goes all the way around Lake Van, but it's quite a big detour and at the moment would like to plan something a little more directly… especially considering this route is 50% longer than the quick coastal route already.
Thanks!!

I’m considering taking a similar route in early April and am curious to see what others say. It looks like a good sampling of everything. One worry is that the winter’s snow won’t yet have melted in the east of the country, which will force you onto the plowed highways and away from scenic backroads and mountain roads.
I can’t see the details in your image, but there are tons of small, often unpaved back roads through much of Türkiye, and they’re an absolute delight. I strongly recommend prioritizing taking those roads, as long as you have reasonably wide tires and low gearing.
