The Aspero 5 doesn’t have the clearance to run an Ultegra or Dura-Ace FD due to how the Di2 cable exits unless you want to run narrow tires. I tried with my Pirelli Gravel H 40c and Pathfinder 42c on Enve 3.4 rims.

Ordered a GRX crank and FD to fix the build. This was an upgrade from a full a full GRX 11 speed di2 build.

I went Ultegra for a larger chain ring, when doing intervals I run out of gears in flat Dakota. I could use more gear vs lower gear for the gravel riding in my area. I tried, I didn’t succeed.

I think Di2 is kind of ridiculous for gravel bikes IMHO. I’m sure I’ll get flamed for saying that.

is the grx fd compatible with ultegra crankset? don’t they have different q factors? and you didn’t need the grx shifters, though they do have nicer ergonomics imo.

also di2 is great. i was a disbeliever for a long time, until my cables would get sticky after a few wet rides. not having to worry about mis-shifts is so nice.

  3. I think this is why sram went 43:10. When you accomodate the tire size difference between 25 to 42 you get the same ratio with a smaller chainring.

  4. Can you run the Ultegra rings on the GRX crank? But, realistically gravel groupsets are heading to boost spacing and thus the design around GRX with its wider spacing. Onba similar note, my Giant Revolt won’t fit a road crank because the chainrings hit the frame.

And you’re spinning out a 48×11? Impressive. I need a downhill to do that in flatish Michigan.

  5. You might consider going XDR driver to get that 10 small sprocket. I have Di2 GRX 810 shifter, GRX crank w/42 ring, XT derailleur and a 10-42 cassette on the XDR driver. Dunno how fast you are pushing those flats but it works well for me!
