I bought a used Commencal meta am v4.2 NZ 2018 with Fox 36 and i noticed the fork tends to suck down like two to three milimeters. Is this something to worry about or is it normal? Next thing is a scratch that the previous owner said it’s nothing to worry about, he also said the fork was serviced this year. The scratch is at the top of the stanchion, and i can feel it with my nail. What should I do?

  1. A couple mm of “suckdown” is completely normal imo, i wouldn’t worry about it.

The scratch means that water and dirt can get into your lower oil more easily whenever that part of the fork moves past your dust wipers. So it would probably be a good idea to service to lowers somewhat more frequently than recommended. It’s a fairly big scratch but it might not be too bad since it’s pretty high up.
