  1. Doing shake-down rides on my new Ari Shafer (~$1700 for the frame). I did a couple of races last year and came away with a new set of requirements for the gravel racing rig for this year:

    * Clearance for 2.1 inch tires
    * UDH
    * Geo that supports a suspension fork
    * Internal routing (aesthetic purposes)
    * Reasonably priced frame since I beat the piss out of these bikes
    * Threaded BB

    After looking at a bunch of frames including the Lauf Seigla (cockpit not internally routed and I don’t like the Lauf fork), Canyon Grail (no frame-only option), and Colnago G4-X (no frame-only potion) I settled on the Shafer. Its a bit on the heavier side compared to my previous gravel racing bike (Pinarello Grevil F) but feels really settled on technical terrain. Climbing up and ripping down rocky paths is straightforward and competent. Its also surprisingly settled on asphalt, maintaining speed fairly easily.

  2. Wow great build thanks for posting this. How tight is the clearance for the rear tire? I’ve considered an extremely similar setup.

  3. Sick bike! I’ve been looking for something similar and Ari wasn’t on my radar until now. Killer price for the frame too
