Hi everyone and happy New Year (I guess we can still say it ๐Ÿ˜)

Since I got my self a full sus XC race bike I decided to transform my older XC hardtail.

Originally it was a Canyon Exceed CF 5 and hereโ€™s what it looks like now. Not really sure in what category this setup would fall in (gravel, monster gravel, rigid XC) but one thing is for sure it is very fun and versatile since I have a 2nd wheelset with 2.35 XC tires.

As stated above it was a stock Canyon Exceed. Iโ€™ve been busy customizing it for the last few month and the only stock components left are the brakes, the seat post and the rear derailleur. Here below the main changes:
– Trek 1120 carbon fork
– Garbaruk drivetrain
– HUNT 24mm int. wheelset with 47 Pathfinder PRO (Vittoria Mezcals on 2nd wheelset)
– Wolftooth orange spacers and other parts
– Ergotec M-bar and Newmen stem with SQLab innerbar (love them) but things about going back to my good old carbon flatbar

And I now use this bike for commuting as well as gravel and light single track riding.

The chainring is a 36T but I wonder if I could fit a 38T. Do you think it will fit (see last picture)?

  1. Nice setup.
I have done the exact same (basically, with my rockhopper. Put a carbon chisel fork and some sqlabs barends. I am itching to put drop bars on it though

  2. blahblahblahresearch on

38T looks like it may fit but itโ€™s always tough to judge from a photo in my experience. I was able to get 4T past my frames recommendation (steel frame though).

Something about cutting it close with carbon feels more dangerous (pun intended?)
