I’ve had my Rove for a couple of years and love it. I use it for my everything bike — commutes, road rides, bikepacking, gravel, sometimes light single-track if I want to rest my hardtail… I’m coming off of a year of knee surgeries and I’m chomping at the bit to get back on my Rove again. I’ve been putting off a wheel upgrade for a long time, and now I feel like I want to treat myself (and the bike) to some new hoops.

I already have a set of 650b, so we’re looking specifically for 700c — I ride more pavement than not so 700c makes sense. I’ll just keep the 650b setup for when I want to put chunky tires on it. Not interested in dynamo at this time.

Of course, carbon is preferred for the upgrade, but I also want to be cost-conscious. I am not trying to set FKTs, but shaving weight is always nice on a steel frame. I swapped the fork already for the Spork from Rodeo Labs (not pictured — did that during surgery downtime). If you have any high quality/low weight alloy wheelset options, I’m not opposed.

  2. Spynergy GX, light and the carbon spokes do a lot for taking the harshness out of the ride

If you’re not prioritizing speed, I recommend Zipp 101 XPLR. Not the fastest, lightest, best value wheel. However, the ride quality upgrade is scrumptious. For the summer, I will keep Fulcrum Wind 40 wheels on my Rove though, just for the good looks.

  4. I don’t want to derail the thread, but I also have a Kona Rove. What are the biggest tires you’ve been able to fit on there with the 650s?
