My friend recently became a mom and no longer uses her bike so she gifted it to me. As a result, impulsively signed up to a 20mi bike tour in October.
A quick google search showed me that there are several versions of this bike. How can I verify which version mine is?
As the title stated, I am completely new to cycling and I would like to learn all there is to know, including details about this bike, training tips, gear tips, etc., etc.
Any recommendations and advice is appreciated 🙏

Looks like it just needs some TLC. Nice!
Bring to local shop and get it a once over and a new chain and some lube to go. Enjoy!
Lovely old steel sirrus. I used to ride one. Took me down the west coast of France and round Puglia as well as commuting all over London
I can’t tell 100% from this photo, but it looks like it has Shimano Rx100 and Exage 500 parts? These were somewhat mid-level, maybe fourth in Shimano’s hierarchy behind Dura-Ace, Ultegra, and 105.
All in all, it’s not a super special or collectible bike, but it is a good, solid bicycle with parts that weren’t exotic, but worked well. It’s just an all-around decent bicycle, give it some maintenance and it should be a good ride, easily capable of 20 mile rides (well, assuming the rider is.)
There’s nothing to know. Just ride it.
Wear a helmet and find someone local who rides to learn from!
This is a solid steel bike with reliable components. A “There are many like it, but this one is mine,” sort of bike that is easy to love.
Nice! I had a drop bar sirrus from around the same era. It was a great bike. I rebuilt it with new wheels and brifters then got hit by a car lol she lives at the bike shop as wall art now.
