Just bought a ticket to Barcelona on May 15, returning from Geneva June 15 (friends live there). Planning my route with Cycle.Travel and wondered if people had good ideas for routes/detours beyond the EVs. I’m excited for Costa Brava and climbing into the Alps. I will be riding a surly straggler with 50 mm tires, so happy to hit some gravel too. Scenery, vibes and culture are my biggest priorities.

  1. I’ve got a route that will get you as far as Lyon.

Basically Gerona ,  allong the coast to the Rhone then up that.  Great riding.

Let me know if you want it

  2. I did this as part of a longer trip, but in reverse. Was a pretty fast stretch, I think 12 days of riding. I mostly stuck to Eurovelos, though. I liked the parts I visited, making a return trip with the family last summer. The Costa Brava was the highlight. I recommend taking your time getting out of Catalunya. Venture along the coast. Get up to Girona and base a few days, doing some unloaded rides. In France, I quite enjoyed Provence in the vicinity of Avignon/Arles/Orange. Another good place to base a few days. Then really loved the Haute-Savoie area up around /Culoz with the Rhône and mountains. The Grand Columbier is right there, a favorite of recent Tour de Frances.
