Is it disengaging when you’re riding and just dragging when you push? Could be some built up grease in there, definitely pop your free hub body off and take a look. I had mine fully lock up before but the free hub body and drive ring were fully toast, hoping your case isn’t that bad

What have you tried to correct this condition?
It might be a broken pawl, but you’re going to have to remove the free hub to take a look. What were you doing when this happened?

Had this happen on my rockhopper with the factory drivetrain. Prior to the hub not disengaging, it wouldn’t shift when I wanted it to, but it would do a jolting like feeling. Ended up having so many issues with the microSHIT drivetrain I converted it from a 2×8 to a 1×9 Box Three from box components. Try checking the cable tension on the barrel adjuster maybe? Good luck!

Normal with easy runing system. There is that only little force that is not enough for the free hub not open

Does it happen to be a 1-2 year old raceface hub?

Open it up and see what happened. Maybe a pawl broke and jammed, or maybe a bearing blew up and threw shrapnel into the ratchet. Could even use be grime and grit, but usually that wouldn’t cause it to jam completely. More than likely you’ll need to replace a bearing or the freehub, but you won’t know until you get it opened up on the bench.

I’ve had this happen once.
Def a sticky dirty freehub
One bike mechanic mentioned that if you spray down your bike the dirt can seep deeper
I think better to air spray and wipe off dirt
Are people in here suggesting to seperate the free hub from the wheel and open it and possibly grease?
In my case the bike shop said I had to replace
Mine had giant axle though so wasn’t generic shimano
One time I totally broke the pawls and it didn’t be opposite. Pedals spun and nothing happened. Multiple bike shops said not worth fixing and to replace the wheel but I did learn later that the freehub is removable and replaceable
