20″ KHS Team Montana. Great super light frameset with True Temper OX, ovalized tubing and great compact geo. Bike is surprisingly light for it’s size/application. Did a few things differently on this one compared to the last few. 385mm axle to crown fork for that nimble feel, Whisky Skully Bar, White Industries Crankset, Friction 8-Speed with Deore LX/XT, Same 26×3.0″ Tires and frame treatment to make ’em fit.
Black leather grips and Brooks B17. Specialized Pizza Rack in the front, and a Salsa rack that I hard mounted to the seatstays using a bolt in the back to make a super compact rack fit like a glove. Both are designed to sit as low as possible. Extremely happy with this one, I’ve done many miles on and off road and carried many bags of groceries home. I have one of these, and a much, much younger me, Stripped the paint, pulled off all the cable stops, cut the derailleur hanger off, and had it powder coated clear. I built it up with a White Industries SS eccentric rear hub, and other choice parts. My buddy warned me against making it a permanent SS, to which I replied. ONLY OLD PEOPLE NEED GEARS!
Well here I am 25 years later kinda wishing I had some gears. I still LOVE that bike, but it doesn’t get ridden as much as it deserves.
