Ragakāpa is a specially protected natural area (nature park) in Jurmala. It is located along the shore of the Gulf of Riga in Buļļuciem. The protected area was created in 1962.

Seven biotopes protected in the European Union can be found in the Ragakāpa Nature Park, including embryonic dunes, white dunes, wooded seaside dunes and naturally developed old coniferous forests. The wooded seaside dunes are a particularly protected habitat in Latvia. There are 21 species specially protected in Latvia in the park: eight plant species, one mushroom species, eight insect species and four bird species. In the park, the sand carnation, which is protected in the European Union, nests the wood pigeon, the black woodpecker, the black lark and the steppe chipmunk. Considering these values of the Ragakāpa Nature Park, it is included in the NATURA 2000 protected areas network of the European Union.[1]

History
At the beginning of the 20th century, the once wandering white sand dunes were reforested. In 1962, the 17-meter-high Ragakāpa was included in the list of natural objects under state protection. In 1970, a fishing museum was established near Ragakāpa, which opened its doors to visitors in 1979. In 2003, the Jūrmala Open Air Museum became a branch of the Jūrmala City Museum, which promotes and studies the development of the oldest occupation of the residents of Jūrmala.
