Currently riding a 1995 Trek 930 around town for errands. Super happy with the build, but the crankset and rear cassette are worn out. A new 7-speed chain has made it somewhat tolerable, but I'm struggling to understand what my replacement options might be.
I've attached the original spec sheet below. I'm mainly looking for something that will work with the original rear hub (Shimano Alivio).
I've currently got it setup with sunrace thumb friction shifters.
What I'm wondering:
- Are replacement chainrings and cassette going to be impossible to find new? I found this Sride cassette, but can't tell if it'd fit on the Alivio hub. The front and rear derailleur work great, so this would likely be the cheapest option.
- What other options are there? I'd be open to a replacement triple, 2x or even 1x, but can't tell what would fit or not.

Replace the chainrings (or entire crankset), cassette and chain with Shimano 8 speed stuff. It’ll be a HG cassette instead of your old IG one but that’s fine with a new chain. Your existing shifters will still shift.
You could even go for a 9 speed setup but then you might want a new rear derailleur as well…but probably not required.
I just checked, the cassete in the sheet you added uses hyperglide freehub, it is still the most popular hub so there are a lot of compatable modern cassetes that should work with your derraileur.
STX cranks use a peculiar and obsolete chainring bolt circle diameter where the middle chainring serves as a spider for the other chainrings. Dont even bother looking for replacement chainrings

You could replace the triple, or you could go 1x or 2x. It will likely require a new bottom bracket to match the crankset, unless the new crankset happens to use the same square taper spindle length (110-113 mm) as your current bottom bracket.
