Question, do you fertilize your carrots with bonemeal, or fish emulsion or hi phosphorus to increase the root size? Which fertilizer would you use, if any? I’m planting my 1st crop!

Dont thinning the carrots grows them all till the roots become carrots
Why faff about like that? I never thin them out because I take my time when sowing and put a seed every couple of inches and I grow carrots in a 30ltr tub. My carrots are twice the size of those grown in 3 year old spent potato compost.
I just level it out after pulling them all, sow the seed then cover with half an inch of fresh top soil.
Dude, soil can have parasites
Cardboard works great to cover the seeds while they sprout.
when do we take the board off
Any advice on keeping soil from getting to compacted during the season? We can get it nice and loose while planting, but it seems like ones the first strong rain hits, it settles and solidifies, and for 2 years of carrots in a row they've turned out pathetic since its been to hard for them to grow.

How often you water the seeds? Just once? And put the 2×4 on top and not water again for 15 days??
I never had success with carrots until last season when I used pelleted seed. They all turned out well and no thinning required. It will be pelleted seed from now on.
