My buddy was riding in the 2-way bike lane on Chrystie Street in Manhattan, going the right way. A black dude in a balaclava was on an electric Citibike, on his phone, and he slammed into my buddy head-on while going the max speed of 18mph. The guy just said "Oh shit" after they crashed and just biked off, leaving my friend there with a broken frame.
Is there anything my friend can do about this?

Welcome to the big city, unfortunately this is the way it is
Pretty much just file a police report.
I’m really starting to hate reckless people on e-biles. So many are riding faster than their abilities allow for. Kinda reminds me of Dodge Charger owners…
Hope your friend isn’t hurt too badly. Not sure there is anything you can do except report it and look for camera footage
Not sure what relevance the ebike rider’s skin color has here.
Otherwise, hit and run is definitely a crime, regardless of whether it was done on a bike or not. Look around to see if there are any security cameras nearby, and try to get the footage.
You’re probably extremely unlikely to be able to identify him though, so unfortunately the most likely answer is that he’ll have to buy a new frame on his own dime.
Contact citibike with the time and location it happened. They may be able to track who was on the bike at that time.
Any witnesses or did you get a picture of the guy?
Never gonna catch that guy in nyc
Not really, also the person’s race is not relevant
Bad enough people are distracted by their phones while driving cars. But now electric bikes too?! That moron that hit your friend needs a dunce cap.
Edit: Spelling error
You must get a report and his contact info. This happened to me a month and a half ago.
Unfortunately cops refused a report and I got nothing :'(.
thats really unfortunate they were in this situation. for anyone experiencing this in the future, the lyft ebikes all have short id numbers on the side, if the person wont cooperate with you, at least try to get the id number of the bike, from there the information about who had rented it can be retrieved from lyft by a lawyer, judge, police, etc.
Shit, breaks my heart to see an Allz sprint like that…
Go to the location. Write up some cards/ what happened the exact location the exact time and an email / pass them around. Look for cameras. Get video if possible. Get lucky. If they are unique you can sit at that spot / same time day next week see if they have a routine.
I had that bike a few years ago

Nice bike
Same as if it was by a normal bike, a skateboarder or someone with a shopping trolley, you have to report it to police and see if you are insured. Nasty thing to happen to you 🙁
Post on r/NYCbike too
I totally misread the title as “what do you call it when you get hit and run by an e-bike”
was expecting some fun punchlines. 🙁
