It's sick, and Yeah! a total joke. Didn't we used have special deals. It seems that going into London hikes the price. But even so, 40 years ago taking a train to London was totaly Not a considered purchace.
that's some selective train ticket buying, the tickets aren't remotely close to that price unless you are very very specifically trying to spend all of the money.

That's about the same distance as Bratislava – Poprad (both in Slovakia). I just looked it up. Roughly €15 each way.

Just got back from Morocco caught a train from Rabat to Marrakech, distance 200 miles or so, train on time cost 18 quid – oh that was 1st class btw
Footy Adventures was quoted a rail ticket from Glasgow to Brighton. He had a weekend break in Copenhagen for less inc spending money. !
Im raging. I bought a ticket at a ticket machine for the wrong day! Im stuggling to get it refunded! It so annoying
