I start crying after 20 minutes of trying to clean it. (just kidding but it is crap).
I place it in bowl of hot water with some soap and degreaser and leave it in there for like 30 minutes. A toothpick and time is your friend after that. Those jockey wheels are some serious work to get clean after the wintertime.

I find the Park Tool [GSC-1](https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/gearclean-brush-gsc-1) useful for this kind of thing
