No matter how tightly I tension the crankset preload screw (by hand ofc), I can’t get rid the non-drive-side crank being a bit loose (before torqueing the crank bolts to 13Nm). What am I doing wrong? Shimano FC-M771 crankset. 73mm BB shell. BB-MT501. 5mm spacer on drive-side. Thanks!

Should the preload bolt make the non-drive-side crank completely tight already or not? When moving the crank from the end, it seems to move a few mms on the spindle… When I torqued the crank bolts it seemed to be okay.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Need a drive side spacer. Hollow tech cranks use either 1 or 3 spacer rings.
Check that the outside of the shell is actually 73mm, there might be some oddity in your eccentric bb. If it is you should be fine with just the one drive side spacer.
The preloaded should only need to be snugged down with your fingers to remove side to side play in the crank spindle. As long as the spindle isn’t sliding back and forth in the bb you’re ready to torque down the pinch bolts.
