My first 29er – the inaugural ride was what I imagine breaking a wild horse is like: slow and steady at first, so you can get to know each other a little better, then after about 18 miles you’re a bit more comfortable with opening up to a little more speed.

That first 18 miles I was pushing at about 50% effort and the last 7 miles I was only at about 70% of my maximum (being cautious) and I still set 13 personal records, in addition to being my longest ride by about 4 miles and more than double what I typically ride. Took a clean minute off my fastest pace. I can’t wait to really push the limits after I put in another 10 hours or so to really feel at home.
