I might be an idiot (probably), but out of the box, it sure seems like this alignment on the front handlebars is completely f-ed up. I don’t see an obvious way to realign them. This is for my kid’s Christmas present 🤬🤬🤬😭
Get the forks where you want them, then loosen the “stem binder bolt” a little, just enough to allow the handle bars to move without turning the fork. Line everything up and tighten.
You got this.

the fork gets turned to fit in the box. the stem and fork have to be re-aligned. the stem has a bolt on the top that can be loosened – but not removed – to allow adjustment. square up the stem to the fork and re-tighten.
just for some extra unsolicited advice:
– the left side pedal threads *backwards*, so turn to the left to tighten
– the brake levers need to be squeezed really hard a few times so the cable can “stretch” (it doesn’t actually stretch but it feels like it). re-tighten the brakes after you do that a few times so the brakes work better.
– the brake levers on the handlebars will probably be mis-aligned as well, you should expect to re-position them for a natural grip.
– the seatpost should have a coating of waterproof grease on it before you install it. in fact any metal-to-metal contact should, like pedal threads.

Thank you all so much! So easy, I figured I was being an idiot!

Old bmx trick is to stand in front of the bars, as others said slightly loosen your stem bolt then use your tightened down bars to turn your gooseneck until it matches up with the fork. (We use to just eyeball, ride, eyeball, adjust)
Hope this helps and your an awesome Dad for getting your boy a BMX 🫶🏻

I’m glad they started putting “Rear” stickers on the fork. Can’t tell you how many bikes I’ve had come in the shop where people put the fork on backwards.

Dad taking on a gyro brake with no experience on Christmas Eve is bold! I say that as a dad with experience setting up a gyro brake. Get some sleep now!

alright you’re almost there, that nut on top of the stem can be loosened either with a wrench or a hex key inserted, and then you can rotate it freely
This video should guide you through the process
