I recently got my hands on a bike for the first time in five years and am completely new to maintenance. After some things happened I accidentally blew out the tube to the back tire before being able to take it for a proper ride. After replacing the tube and trying to inflate it it looks like it overinflates in 3 quarters of the tube but in the last quarter it's underinflated. The actual tire there is farther over the rim than it's supposed to be. The tire is rated for 700c x 38 and the tubes I got were rated 700c x 35-43 any help would be appreciated.

  1. Tube is twisted.

I’d deflate and pop the bead on one side and re-seat it. If you want to get really fancy, I put talc (baby powder) on my tubes to give some lubrication.

  2. The bead is not seated evenly. Not a big deal. You can deflate the tube, push the bead down and inflate it again to see if it inflates more evenly this time. Also, if you are standing the wheel upright supporting its weight while inflating it, it will be uneven most of the time. A little soapy water spread on the beads will provide just enough slip to allow the beads to move into their ideal position when inflated.
