The crank has been cross-threaded. (The pedal thread was started ‘off’ a number of degrees, and forced). This has lightly damaged the threads. With a proper tap (9/16″ x 20) it could be chased out from the back side and it likely will be fine. If it’s a cheaper crank, you can possibly replace the Crankarm for what a shop would charge to do the labor, or for you to buy a set of these taps. (The left crank arm has reverse pedal threads, so these are usually sold in sets)
