I'm around 300 miles from this bike so I can't just hop over and take a look. The person selling it doesn't know anything about it as he's selling it for a neighbor. It looks like a Pinnacle DX from 1991, but this color isn't listed in the '91 catalog. I have a friend of a friend who is close to it and willing to take a look for me. Besides headset, bottom bracket and seat post issues are there any other things he should look for? And would this be a deal worth driving 300 miles for?

  1. Klein are always nice and that purple rules. If it fits you, I’d go for it. Looks almost kiddo sized though :

  2. I have several Klein road bikes from the late 80’s and early 90’s. They are great bikes, and I’ve upgraded mine with top tier equipment so they are pretty fast. Not very light, but very stiff so be aware they will ride harder than other bikes. This one does look like it was well kept. And for me, that a big issue.

I’m think it’s worth it if it’s your size. It’s Klein’s “size 18.” His sizing was whack. It is for someone between 5’ and 5’4”. Maybe you can get $50 off because you’re driving so far.

I’m pretty sure it’s a Pinnacle. Larger size Pinnacles have rack mounts at the top of the seat stays though.

I still miss riding my friends Klein before he passed away…I would probably do it, but I would just do it for sentimental reasons.

The one time I rode one, I found it too stiff for my liking. The headset on these is just a standard 1” threaded.
