  1. Freehub pawls are stuck open. Take the wheel and cassette off, try flushing the freehub to get the pawls going. Otherwise, replace the freehub.

  2. Your freewheel is dying/dead. In the us the part is usually around $20-45 and $20ish to install, HOWEVER, your chain may need to go as well because they wear together. This issue is aggravates by cold weather. Also, the salt dries out the grease inside the freewheel so the ratchet and pawls have stopped working properly. If this happens when you’re out on the road, you can sometimes put a bandaid on it by pouring hot liquid on it, or acting like a triathlete…
