As someone who frequently travels and has lived in a country not on the American continents aka the new world the main difference is most places are somewhat closer to walk to. If not the domestic public transportation infrastructure is more developed or more widely available. While you can argue that bike lanes and sidewalks are safer if you ever been to the Netherlands or Belgium cyclists rarely stop for people that get in their way
