I have SRAM Apex brakes on my bike with wired Apex 1×12 groupset, so only a right shifter is used for gear switching. If I buy Reverb AXS (wired dropper posts cannot be properly installed on my bike), can I buy https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/ed-apx-d1 (but left variant) and use the shifter button to control the dropper post? Or it won't connect to the dropper post due to firmware or app limitations?

No, Reverb AXS Dropper posts actuate by pressing two AXS drop bar shifters at the same time, in the same way you would actuate the front derailer in an AXS 2x drivetrain. So you will need wither both axs shifter hoods, or use a standard reverb axs dropper button and mount it somewhere on your drop bars.
