  1. I would be very interested in your comments – may be even a video – on your riding tips for frosty weather – from bike setup (tyres etc) to anything else you have to say! I am newbie cyclist and attempted my first Audax on the same weekend as this video was taken, over in the Cotswolds, only to hit ice and come off the bike. This was on a descent, as I couldn’t see over the crest I took all the speed off to a walking pace. Probably braking didn’t help but as I went over the crest my wheels went and that was it. I was being so cautious, which made this even more frustrating. The bike was sufficiently damaged to end the ride as was my shoulder. It would be good to hear from someone who lives in conditions that can be quite scary for winter cycling to share some of your experiences.

  2. Another great video, Greek philosophy and all, that put a smile on my face!
Too icy for my road bike this weekend but a great day yesterday along the old railway track into Richmond for lunch on our mountain bikes then a few muddy tracks and narrow lanes in the afternoon.
Spent today walking up in the lovely hills, why not?👍🚴🏼‍♂️

  3. Gordon, you are truly a renaissance man. Your commentary is always enjoyable, whether you're making sly references to Pink Floyd lyrics or discussing Heraclitus. You are truly one of a kind.

  4. Great ride and commentary as usual. Very sound and honest comments at the end as well. I also get bronchial issues breathing in the frosty cold air at this time of year, so no need to be a hero. You can't ride from a sick bed.

  5. I know those roads very well! Nice circuit,. You will have to learn Monty python's philospher's drinking song. Sometimes I sing it to myself on the bike to pass on a bit of time. Good luck!

  6. Always wary of Hostingley Lane, patchy surfacing and can be very busy. Chapeau for the climb through Netherton and then onto Wooley Edge. The new 'One way' system is – I guess – an attempt to reduce the numerous RTA's that occur in that location – intrigued if this works at night time.

  7. I meant to say that where you turn left @7:13 at Staincross: Dickie Bird lives 300 yards away, turn left, sharp right on the old crossroads triangle, go down the old road 200 yards and DIckie's house is on the right.
p.s. "toasted teacakes" which is what we say, they now call "teacakes" ??!
