I was about to spend money on a Lezyne helmet mount when I decided to see what I could make from old GoPro mounts I had laying around. I cut off almost all the surrounding plastic on the ‘base’ and also cut the grooves deeper to make room for the zip ties. I then used some old foamy bar tape as a cushion to protect the helmet and to reduce vibration, maybe?
This should provide a much smoother result than mounting the camera to the handlebar of my Brompton.

  1. I’m kinda sketchy with this setup, I feel it defeats the whole purpose of wearing a helmet. If you crash hard, that GoPro mount will protrude to your skull.

I’d downsize to a session, even though the hero is not large, I found it distracting and messed with the balance of the helmet. When I looked at footage, I realize that I look all over the place and didn’t keep my head forward so I changed to a bar mount and was much happier with the footage

I also don’t understand why you would mount anything to your helmet. Have fun landing on the go pro and having all those forces being concentrated on the mount and into your skull.
