Hey Guys

Am building a cargobike which will be used by my girlfriend and me. I‘m slighlty taller than her, and i thought about a dropper seatpost.

Due to comfort (by installing) reasins i thought about one like this (with that lever)

So – can i set them up for special levels or do they come with a factory setup which i can‘t adjust?

I‘d like to adjust it to my girlfriends and my height, so that we can easily switch.

Thanks in advance for any reference/feedbacks or links.

  1. most dropper posts are infinitely adjustable, meaning that all you need to do is find your height and lock it back in. The flipside is that the post won’t remember the position you have it in, so youll have to find it each time you wanna switch. best thing you can do is to set the dropper up for whoevers taller, and just mark the post at the position you want to keep it for the shorter person with a metallic permanent marker.

There’s also inexed dropper posts, but those give you less adjustability, instead of being able to adjust infinitely, youll have travel every 5mm (or whatever its indexed to) followed by a detent.

yeah you can change the height. set it permanently at the taller height and use the lever to release it so it compresses to the shorter height. then let go of the lever.

  3. Droppers (generally) will com in different “drop” lengths and are infintly adjustable between full up and full down (same as a seatpost).

You can’t really set them to stop at two arbitrary in between heights easily, but you can’t just hop on and adjust to fit each time.

However….this just seems like a more complicated (and pricy) solution that a QR seat collar will also accomplish.

I have one of those for all my bikes. Love them. Typically an overall lighter and less complicated set up that you can instantly swap out in case you want to go back to a std post. Only downside is it looks inappropriate on a group ride when you drop/raise it.

  5. You want a [2-piece shaft collar](https://www.globalindustrial.com/p/two-piece-clamping-collar-climax-2c-050-a?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAgoq7BhBxEiwAVcW0LOb5FrlYw_nCXTuf7YvDrL8NwZoRIe1V19bGIBLydWk0HqZWw40JnRoC3R8QAvD_BwE).

You’ll need to measure the diameter of the sliding mast of the dropper seatpost as there is no standard size. You may then have to buy the closest size of shaft collar that is bigger and shim it to fit.

  6. you can set it up for your (tall) height then, assuming you buy one with enough drop, lower it to her height and add a zip tie so that’s not the low position so you don’t need to fuss with finding her spot.
