In this video, you will join me along an exciting eurovelo 8 bikepacking trip on my Brompton as…
I woke up early near the Spanish border after a peaceful night camping in the wild.
With three hours to catch my train in Figueres, I went on a challenging hiking trail, encountering stray dogs and navigating uneven terrain before reaching a rideable path as the sun rose.
The Spanish countryside felt wilder and more chaotic compared to France and Italy but had its own charm.
Following the EuroVelo 8 route, I passed quiet villages like Capmany and Peralada before detouring to Figueres.
At the train station, I faced unexpected challenges: long queues, strict airport like security, and sold-out TGV tickets to Paris.
With no way to board a high-speed train, I had to pivot to a new plan: hopping regional trains from Figueres to Port Bou, then Perpignan, Lyon, and onward.
At Port Bou, a quaint beach town on the Spanish coast, I explored the pebble beach and admired the steep, hilly roadsβperfect for e-bikes but tough for my Brompton.
Later, I boarded a train to Avignon, where I had just 30 minutes to explore its historic city center. With poetic streets, towering walls, and a vibrant atmosphere, Avignon left a lasting impression.
The journey continued to Lyon, though train delays caused me to miss my connection to Switzerland.
Exploring Lyon unexpectedly became a highlight: its striking skyscrapers, young energy, and riverside charm were breathtaking.
I ended the day checking into a hotel, regretting not having more time to explore the city.
