As a rider, you have to be fastest to win. If you take more risks in descents and sprints, you have a higher chance to win. That easy.

Come on Llyodie. Do the ride. It’s for charity. In my 40’s I rode multiple 24 hour rides. Most miles ridden in a 24 hour period was 306.7 miles. Yes there is preparation and training involved but it would be the accomplishment of finishing the ride that you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Go do it!😁
The problem with your hypothesis is there have always been young people in the tour and groups of young cyclists in the peloton of the tour so it your hypothesis were to be correct then the issue would have been obvious years ago. As I’ve said before the increase in dangerous riding has happened since the introduction of disc brakes, riders are braking later in the corners and later in other situations, disc brakes lock up all too easily and as riders are pushing like they always have but with disc brakes you now have the scenario for the increasing accidents in competition riding.
