I'm working on a project to make trailing edge fairings for standard round drop bars. Similar to the Redshift Cruise Control Grips but more aero optimized. My buddy will test it out on his aerodynamics software to see the results. Hope to get these out to everyone for the next riding season.

Great idea! I’d give those a test
But why? Will look terrible once wrapped!
Can you make some fins for my fat ass too?
they suck ass, don’t bother. And the bar wrap is a nightmare. have them similar from gel or something and they just are an ergonomical nightmare, plus don’t do it justice in aero i suppose, since you need to bar tape wrap them.
Doesn’t mean your idea is bad! but i’m thinking such solutions need a certain type of bar to work

I would suggest to make them a bit „shorter“ in both directions. Otherwise with a nice colour they would look very good (unwrapped ofc)
This is a very r/bicyclingcirclejerk invention.
Only thing I’d change is the end near the stem, needs to be smoothed down like the other end.
Just take a shit before riding. The improvement these could potentially make are so slim it won’t matter.
A good comparison would be in F1 when a car goes just as fast without all the aero canards or barge boards after a wreck. If something as highly optimized as an F1 car doesn’t benefit these won’t help either.
Make sure to make it mountable
Only issue is I’d be hesitant to put any weight on that section of the bars once they’re installed. So now I’m forced to be either on the hoods or in the drops. Feels like a half-added solution for a problem that isn’t all that big.
No thank you.
How much? I’ll buy it
Unless you’re forgoing the use of the top part of the bar you’re asking for a bad accident. You need to be able to hook your thumbs under the bar somewhere.
I get the idea of using this as a grip (not for me but sure, in principle) but surely the aerodynamics of this just doesn’t matter? I would be shocked if you could measure a difference with and without this for 99.99% of *real* use cases.
sick!
Your fairing occupies the space behind the corners/shoulders where one’s wrist will be when sprinting from the drops.
