Hi everyone! Long time viewer, first time poster on here, so apologies in advance for any faux-pas.
I’m looking to buy a new Canyon, but I’m unsure as to which one I should buy. I previously had a 2022 Aeroad CF SL 8 Disc (pictured below), which I absolutely loved, but unfortunately it was written off after a pretty nasty crash that I had back in the summer. I’m still on the road to recovery, but I’ve been riding a lot on the indoor trainer in the last couple of months and want to get back out on the road again in the new year.
I like to race occasionally and I also ride my local 10-mile time trial every week during the season. I’m still young (20 years old) and I like to go fast, but comfort is definitely the priority for me when riding. Never had any problems with my old Aeroad, so perhaps someone here can provide some insight on how the new one compares.
I get a discount on Canyon through work, so I effectively have a budget of around £6,000 for a new bike. Here are the options that I’m currently looking at:
• Aeroad CF SLX 7 Di2 – £4,499
• Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2 – £5,999
• Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2 Speed – £5,999
• Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2 Speed – £5,999
I really want DT Swiss wheels again, as they were pretty much one of the only things on my bike to survive the aforementioned crash after a big impact, so I consider them to be practically bomb-proof now (unfortunately they also had to go in the skip with the rest of the bike though).
Does anybody know the difference between the standard Aeroad and the ‘Speed’ model? From the pictures it looks like the Speed comes with slightly deeper ARC 1400 rims, but are there any other differences?

Also, other than the upgraded groupset and wheels, are there any differences between the SLX 8 and the SLX 7? And are the DT Swiss 1400s a big upgrade on the 1600s that I previously had? I’ve also never had electronic gears before, so is there a big difference between 105 Di2 and Ultegra Di2? I don’t really see the point in spending quite a bit more money if the upgrades are marginally better.
Finally, I suppose Aeroad vs Ultimate is an age-old question on this subreddit, but should I consider getting the Ultimate instead of one of the Aeroads?
If you can comment below with which bike you’d choose and your reasons why, then I’d greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

When you look at comfort there isn’t any difference between the aeroad and the ultimate. Weight is the only difference and off course aero dynamics. Do you have/want to climb -> ultimate, if you cycle on flat routes -> aeroad.
Since you were happy with your aeroad I think you should buy an aeroad.
I’ve got an ultimate, but a 40 miler ends with about 4k ft of elevation gain. So if you aren’t doing much climbs I’d stick with an aeroad.
