Can’t seem to get this clips to fit into the pedals, just keeps slipping. It seems like the black part on the back of the pedal is very snug, there’s a spring that doesn’t budge much, if it all. Not sure if there’s a way to loosen it, or if I’m doing something else wrong? A friend has a peloton bike which has similar looking pedals and these clips snap on and off very easily.

Are those look Keo cleats or look Delta cleats?
My (Shimano) pedals have a little hex bolt on the back that can be used to set the tension of the spring.
Those are definitely Delta cleats and Peleton bikes come with delta cleat pedals. Not sure why the package would say they are compatible with Keo when they aren’t. Keo cleats look like this

Those cleats are Look Delta compatible and your pedals need Look Keo.
Wrong cleat/pedal.
The cleat is from a Time pedal and the pedal looks like Look.
Those are not the correct cleats for that pedal. While the 3-bolt cleats all look very similar, they are not the same and are not interchangeable. Yours look to be cheap copies of Look “Delta” cleats. Pedals that use ‘Delta’ cleats are more common that Keo, so that’s probably what’s on your friend’s Peloton.
FWIW – the real cleats are not expensive. Buy the real cleats. Durability and performance is much better. And for riding outdoors, the cleats are a serious safety component – having your pedal unclip at the wrong moment can very easily cause a serious crash.

I’m pretty sure what you have on your shoe there is a Look Delta cleat. What you need is Look Keo cleats.

Those parts have never met. Look Delta (1986-2007) vs Look KEO.
I made that mistake
Old style Look cleats on Keo pedals. You need Keo cleats.
Those are Look Delta cleats, and you have Look Keo pedals. The older, larger Delta cleat doesn’t work with the newer pedals.
You need to get a pair of Look Keo cleats.
