    But I’ll disappoint you telling that this way of locking up is a bit unsafe, you should better always catch the frame with the U-lock, at least the seat stays.

    I know this is something you don’t want to hear but when I was a bike messenger (A long long time ago), I would wrap my bike in handlebar tape. Every particle of paint was covered by bar tape. I didn’t get any scratches.

  3. Excellent locking technique, Sheldon Brown would be proud. With this technique, you can also turn the bike rack side crank arm back, parallel with the chainstay, hook the pedal on the rear facing side of the rack (or pole or whatever you’re locking to), which will rest the bike on the crank arm rather than the frame.

    Those welds are beautiful. I wasn’t familiar with Erickson – had to look him up, very cool. What year is this?
