usually, the most common and cheap friction shifters were made with 7/8/9 speed in mind. must be also the case here… these shifters have been around quite some time.
with 10/11/12 speed there is afaik only Dia-Compe/Ene-Ciclo UNO on the market as option. is fairly recent and pricey… i saw a review one year or so ago that explicitly said that this is finally a proper friction shifter for speeds higher than 9…

Should work fine. It will just have more gears with less movement than if you use it on a 7 or 8
Also some of the stiff mountain bike derailleurs such as the ones with clutches will try to pull on the friction shifters causing them to shift up on their own. But that was with a 90s xt shifter, so try jt out

My gf and I both run friction shifting on our road/gravel bikes. I have 9sp gevanalle shifters which is basically a microshift thumb shifter bolted onto a tektro brake lever. She uses 10sp microshifts on the downtube because she rides bullhorn bars.
Not sure about sunrace but microshift makes up to 11 speed thumb shifters and they can be run in indexed or friction mode. Personally I think 10/11 speeds on friction sounds crowded, but 9 is comfortable and I do love friction shifting so maybe it’s not that bad.
