Started with a free Univega with killer retro 90s paint. Put about 150 miles on it and just couldn’t get comfortable on the frame. It was 23” square and too big for me at 5’9” no matter what I did. Scored this super tatty 89 diamondback ascent off market place for $20. Couldn’t resist the straight blade fork. Frame is tange 4130 and is surprisingly light. Also “accidentally” won an xtr/velocity wheelset off eBay so now I’m all in with the build. Frame fits like a glove and is so much more comfortable than the xl univega. Will probably get a new paint job in the future, either rattle can or powder coat. For now gonna enjoy it as the winter beater. Hope y’all enjoying the season!

  1. I fell into a high end 23” Specialized Crave Pro hardtail and I’m 6’3 and it’s questionably large for me…

Very cool project you have there. I don’t know if I’m more jealous of the straight fork or the XTR wheels 😉
