Ayo, i picked up a used bike from a guy and he put a 52/17 ratio on it. I commute to classes in an urban area with a few hills and while it's nice to have the speed, it's so hard to skid and stop. I also have a prob with toe over lap. I'm a broke college kid so looking for the cheapest solution, I'm thinking of j swaping out the rear cog with a 19 or 20. As far as the toe overlap, i have no idea, but suggestions are welcome. Lmk, thanks!

  1. It’s a track bike, you’re gonna have toe overlap lol
You have foot retention for stopping/skidding right? Also swapping out that 17t for a 19t should make it easier.. I have this same bike with a 48/17 and it’s pretty easy to skid.

  2. start with a 19 cog, makes it slightly easier than the standard 49/17 ratio most people run and gives you a fuck ton of skid patches which will save you money. toe overlap is a track bike thing, just going to have to get used to it. and careful with shimano spd for skids, they’re notorious for unclipping.
