    Hello,

So my eyes are on new Triban RC520. It has Shimano 105 R7000 groupset, Microshift cassette (11/32) and Prowheel crankset (50/34). It has hydro-mechanic disco brakes. It weights 10,4kg in M size without pedals. It´s 950€.

Then there is used Canyon Endurance WMN AL Disc 7.0 2020. It has all Shimano 105, 2×11 gears. It has hydraulic disc brakes and weights 8.7kg. It’s sold for 890€ (original price 1899€). It looks good, it has few scratches, but nothing bad.

Right now I have Triban RC100, but I I want an upgrade, which will last me for long time. I do mostly road cycling, with a bit of gravel in between, speed is not so important. I feel like Canyon is obvious answer, BUT the only problem is that is sold online in another country (legit business), so I can’t see it before. It says if bike is not as described online, I can send it back and get my money back. Is Canyon so much better bike, that is worth going through all the stress in case bike is not what is described online?

Also I saw Canyon has different sizes. The size of this Canyon is 2XS, which on Canyon size chart is from 160cm-168cm. I’m somewhere between 159-160cm, with 74cm inseam. Do you think bike will be too big?

Hope you have a nice weekend!

EDIT: Ups, Microshift not Microsoft 😀

Didn’t know Microsoft was making cassettes these days.

Anyway go for the Canyon. Hydraulic brakes make a world of difference and you’ll have better resale value.

  3. If you plan to commute on this bike. The Canyon doesn’t have mounting points for a rear rack. The Triban RC520 has mounting points for a rear rack.

  4. Canyon sounds like a better option but riding a bike that’s too big sucks, it won’t handle right and you won’t get that wonderful out of the saddle jump. Also I’d check the specs cause I believe those smaller canyons have 650b wheels which might be a deal breaker, you’ll struggle to find good deals (if any) on good new wheels and tires for that wheel size. Could be wrong though. If you can’t test it out I’d either go for the Triban or wait to find something better. It could be an Aeroad CFR but if it doesn’t fit it doesn’t fit. Maybe try find another bike nearby you can test ride in the sand size? For your price range though I’d say used is best, hundred percent you should be getting full 105 paying that much.

    General:

Avoid mechanical and hydro-mechanical discs by all means possible. Their performance imo is even worse than good rim brakes, and the only reason that these abominations of brakes exist at all is that they allow to use cheap mechanical-type STIs (brifters). ((Compare to MTBs: There are virtually no MTBs left that at all use mechanic brakes, except possibly for the absolute cheapest kids bikes))

Which also makes it almost useless to upgrade to hydraulic disc brakes: You would need to upgrade the STIs too, and hydraulic type STIs are expensive.
