  1. It is fine, but yea you want to be careful about not clamping too tight. I’d probably get some carbon paste under the clamp too to prevent it slipping and you don’t need to torque it as much. Finish line makes some good stuff that is cheap

  2. Your chainring looks petty worn, might want to consider replacing that and your chain at the same time. Will probably resolve chain drop issues.

  3. Gravel shouldn’t be enough to knock a chain off. Doing mountain maybe. Sounds like you have other issues; like too much chain angle, derailer gone bad/sticky/bad spring, not a narrow wide chain ring or something.
    Do you have a clutch in your derailer?
