Hey all, so I bought a used bike which has Ultegra 6600/6603 on it as 3×10. It came with a 12-25 cassette. I am cycling in high gradients and want to get a bigger cassette.

What I tried already:
Tried 11-32 cassette, derailleur did not clear the big cog in small front ring.
Tried 12-30 cassette derailleur did not clear the big cog.
B-screw as you can see in pic is alread turned around and maxed out (checked the sheldon brown article on this)
Chain was sized correctly.

I am aware I am exceeding both the max cog specification as well as capacity specification, but I want to get as much out of this groupset as possible.

What I am thinking of:
Either getting 12-28 cassette and calling it a day (that would have sufficient clearance)
Or getting a Wolftooth Roadlink to fit the 11-32. Further I do not want to stretch the capacity.

However on their website they claim triple cranksets are not compatible. (I guess due to capacity of medium cage derailleurs)

I tried the 11-32 cassette and when sized for 52-32 the chain was too long for the 30-11 gear. Anyway I would not crosschain while riding.

Do you reckon I would be fine? I read some people are running these configs where cross chaining is no longer possible due to running over capacity however I did not find what would be the consequences of a accidental shift into crosschain. Any experience?

  1. That derailleur hanger looks like it is the wrong way round.

I also doubt that it is the correct hanger for that frame.

Try removing & refitting so the b-screw can contact the spur on the hanger.

I’m still not sure that is going to work, but it’s a start.
