  1. How rubbish to have yet another thing to worry about.

I have entered India 3 times in this period with cyclecomputer with no problems.

I met a guy who brought a Garmin InReach into India and was thrown in jail. His family contacted the embassy and got him a diplomatic flight home but he’s now persona non grata in India. It’s entirely dependent on how much of a pain in the ass the person checking your luggage wants to be.

I was watching SV Delos sometime ago and customs seized their iridium satellite hotspot. They had to put it in an empty drawer and the drawer was sealed with a customs sticker while checking out, I think they checked if the sticker was intact. They got it out before because the sides of the drawer didn’t go all the way up to the top, therefore thy could sneak it out from the adjacent drawer

India only allows inmarsat saltellite devices. But by that definition, every smartphone is illegal too.

  4. Passive GPS-receivers like in your smartphone are legal. Anything that can activly send through a satellite network is not.
