My almost 12-year-old has gone out on a few trails with me and some of her friends on her old hybrid that’s now too small for her and for Christmas we’re thinking about getting her a decent bike that should last her at least the next couple of years.
I found two used bikes locally:
– Trek Mamba for ~$300 I believe it’s a 2013 as it has basically these specs per the listing: https://www.bikeroar.com/products/trek/mamba-2013/specs
– 2014 Specialized Jett Expert $375 which is a women’s specific bike https://www.specialized.com/us/en/jett-expert-29/p/49704?color=149503-49704
I have seen the Trek and rode it around a bit – in great shape and super clean. Am hoping to see the Specialized tomorrow. All things being equal I think she’d prefer the Specialized for the color (white vs black/orange) but not sure I can justify the extra $75 on color alone.
Any input is much appreciated!
Edit: read the auto mod post and adding that she’d be riding local trails in Marin county where we live, maybe up in north Lake Tahoe too and nothing more than a blue equivalent to start. She’d also be riding this bike to/from school most days.

Second has remarkably better fork and better shifting.
The Specialized is the better component set here and is the no brainer option between the two. Good luck!
Shimano Deore is just bullet proof.
