  1. not just voile straps, any sort of straps with buckles that are short and small enough to use for bicycle, only wide and long ones for cars. i can probably find straps without buckles, what knots can i use to easily load and deload cargo when commuting and touring? especially when loading a dry bag on handlebar etc

  2. Commuting and touring, just get panniers. They’re way less faff than strapping stuff on your bike.

If you want to fix a dry bag to your bars, firstly consider a proper bar bag, after that, bungee cords.

Fundamentally, strapping shit to your bike is a pain in the ass, and should be avoided for regular use because it means it takes longer to get going.

  3. I ziptied a milk crate to the back and then I can use bungees to keep anything from flying out

  4. Delta cargo net is a very nice option available at US bike shops for about $10. There’s two kinds, one bungee and the other rubber. I’ve been using the latter for about a year and appreciate it. Stablizes anything from a few sheets of paper to a 12 pack quite easily.

I’ve also found some nice straps at climbing shops that are used for camping and luggage. Check REI, Erehwon’s, or Varuste…

For that kind of rack that doesn’t have great pannier support, bungees are really pretty great.

  6. Bungee is fine, that’s what I use. I put the center of the bungee underneath the rack, cross over the top, and continue to wrap around the rack until it gets tight.

  7. I use nylon straps with small metal buckles. They are 1/4 of the price of voile straps, much stronger and easy to cut shorter if you need.
