Just had the rim trued out, and had to replace a few innertubes. Had it and rode it decently hard for a beginner for about 4 weeks ago now and thought maybe it was lack of chain lube. But inconsistent chain tension made me rethink that. So now the thought is maybe the sprocket has a problem? Tension differences seem to follow the same rotation as the sprocket if you know what I mean. Any thoughts?

You should have a spacer between the spindle and the sprocket that removes any space between them. If it’s not there the sprocket will move unevenly around the spindle and cause uneven chain tension
